Hi. Welcome. Bienvenidos. Thanks for stopping by. So you want to know more about Tim Cox? What do you want to know? I’m an actor, a writer, a filmmaker, a musician, maybe a few other things too. I’m a nihilist with a sunny disposition. I believe that life is meaningless and that means we get to find our own meaning, which I think makes it a little bit more special and precious. I love to act, sing, to listen and tell stories because it feels like the best way to experience as much of this life as I can before I shuffle on.
Let me take you back to the start. I was born in Houston, Texas to a pair of chemical engineers. The hospital I was born in was down the road from NASA HQ, which I always thought was pretty cool. We moved to Australia when I was 3, which is also pretty cool, I guess. But there’s a noticeable lack of spaceships here so… I don't know, that's a little disappointing. I think we should do something about that.
When I was ten, an episode of Barney The Dinosaur came on after my Saturday morning cartoons and I asked my mum about the kids hanging out with Barney. Who are they? What's their deal? How'd they get to be so lucky? She told me they were actors and I decided that was something I wanted to do. A month later I was enrolled in youth theatre. That same year (I think, I don’t really know, they all kind of run together) my dad bought me the LEGO® stop motion camera kit so I got really into that. Went through high school lighting toys on fire and filming it, very standard stuff really. Makes me feel kind of basic now.
I graduated with honours from a Communications and Media degree but while I was traveling through the ugly, rundown streets of LA after graduating I thought “What a magical place. This is where people’s dreams come to flourish or perish. This is where I want to be.” So I went to the National Theatre Drama School, studied acting fulltime for three years, and then not long after graduating from a second degree I was back in that Mecca of entertainment again. I spent a couple of years living there until covid made that unviable and now I’m back in Melbourne. But living in LA reawakened the spark in me to create so in addition to calling myself an actor I now also call myself a filmmaker and a musician.
Did you read all of that? Wow. Thank you. That's dedication. This bio is, like my life, a work in progress, so check back in from time to time for some updates.
